Career speakers.

This morning we had a visitor in our school to talk to the year 7 and 8's about their career journey. It amazed me with all our visitors coming in  and telling us what helped them to achieve their careers and what their goals were. We had ladies coming in and telling us that they worked on cruise boats travelling around islands all over New Zealand, we also had ladies that worked around sea life helping the sea animals and that. I enjoyed listening to our career speakers it was really inspirational to hear how they had come to achieve their dream careers. I have couple word of inspiration myself All our dreams can come true if we have the courage to pursue them.

Maths

Today I learnt about the analog clocks and how to read it. What I found easy was telling the time on our tiny analog clocks. The hard thing was showing it on the clock because I always got confused with the long arm and the short arm. I think if I keep on working with the mini analog clocks I'll nail how to tell the time and how to show it by the end of the term.

Decimals, Fractions and percentages

This week I have been learning about decimals, Fractions and percentages. At first I found it hard then as I got the hang of it I found it easy. I think if I keep working hard with decimals, fractions and percentages I would ace them all. But for now I'll continue to work hard.

Talk to move

This week we I've been learning how to use talk moves in math. The talk moves are to help people understand other people's answer in math. A sentences I use is what is another strategy I can use to check. I think I need a little more work with the talk moves because they really do help me understand math better. I feel like I'm getting good at my maths with this talk to move in maths it's helped me so much.

Reading

This week in reading I was learning about text to self, text to world and text to text. I got to choose a novel from our school library to take home and read. The book I chose was a book from one of my favourite author's named ROALD DAHL.The book was CHARLIE AND THE GREAT GLASS ELEVATOR. The easy part about reading this week was understanding  what  text to self was. My next step in my reading journey is to learn about text to world. I still need abit of help with my text to text and text to world.


Rotarota - Poetry

This week I did some different kind of rotarota - ( Poetry ). My favourite part of making my own rotarota was being really creative. The hard part about making my rotarota was finding the correct words for the rotarota. I hope that I can learn heaps more ways to doi rotarota.

Movie making

This week I have been helping a team of three people complete their movie. The easy part about this project was recording the actually video on a chromebook. The hard part was linking the completed videos to the timetable sheet thats was made for the movies. I enjoyed helping out others complete their movie.

This week I have been learning about decimals, percentages and fractions. I had fun learning about decimals for maths because I had no clue what decimals were. I like learning with decimals because it's challenging.  I still need lots of work with decimals fractions and percentages. I'am looking forwards to learning more about decimals, fractions and percentages.

My sad days of the holidays :(

Last week I did a story about my sad moments of the holidays.

Spending the last days of the holidays with my dad.
Last days of the holidays had come. Spending the last days of the holidays with dad was really sad because I knew I was having to leave him to come back to school.
Watching movies with dad was awesome because we were spending time together.


Saying our goodbyes
Knowing I was to leave the next day dad,Eva and I said our goodbyes. Sadly I didn’t wish to leave him but I also knew I had no choice but to leave. Packing away all my belongings a tear drops from my watery eyes hitting the floor. I knew I didn’t really want to cry because it would have made matters even harder for me. Knowing myself I had a little time to myself crying my eyeballs out wishing to have a bit more time in Auckland with dad.


Leaving dad :(


Next day had come around and dad had left early in the morning to go to work. Feeling really sad Eva and I made some pancakes and watched movies on t.v. Scrolling down looking for a really good movie to watch I left the controller on the big brown chair and walked towards the landline. Picking up the landline I dialed dads mobile and rung him ring,ring,ring waiting for him to pick up he never did. Aunty Roimata had come to pick Eva and I up.Still on the landline it goes through to voicemail leaving dad a voicemail saying Love you dad from Eva and Tia trying my best not to cry.

Healthy eating

Today I learnt about healthy eating. I had a awesome time learning about healthy eating. The most interesting  fact was knowing that my body is like a car in a way. The easy part to me was asking  question about healthy eating. The hard part was understanding why we wouldn't be able to eat most junk food everyday but in the end I got. I enjoyed learning about healthy eating today.

Prime Numbers


This week I have been learning to identify a prime number. The easy part was knowing my timetables and the hard part was trying to be confident to find a prime number instantly without that much help. My teacher had gave me homework to do with prime numbers and that was amazing. These are the prime numbers I know so far 2, 3, 5, 7, 11, 13, 17, 19, 23, 29, 31, 37, 41, 43 and 47. Next steps will be mastering all prime numbers past 100 and hope I get them all right!!


Eel Report

Last week I was working on a report about eels. The hard  part about writing this report was looking for the right facts that are about the eel. The easy part was gathering all my facts and putting them into the right paragraphs. Here is my work I hope you enjoy reading it!


Eel Report

General statement

 The New Zealand native eels are (pronounced tuna) it’s scientific name is anguilliformes.
These eels are coated with a thick layer of mucus allowing it to slither through broken branches and rocks beneath the water without getting injured.

Appearance

In shape, eels are elongate, slender-bodied fishes, almost tubular. When they are small, they have relatively smooth heads but as they grow the head becomes bulbous, with a prominent muscular dome behind the eyes.

Habitat

Eels are bottom dwellers,
most eels  are found in  creeks rivers, streams or in muddy and silt-bottomed lakes.
They hide in burrows , snags, tube, masses of plants and other shelters beneath water.
They are  really good at fitting into smaller hiding spots underneath water.

Life cycle

In autumn, adult eels leave fresh water and travel  from New Zealand to tropical seas somewhere in the South Pacific. The females release their eggs, the males fertilise them, and the adults die shortly after spawning. The eggs hatch into larvae then floats  to the surface and drift back towards New Zealand.

Closing statement

Longfin eels like to stay close to the surface as possible because they will get eaten by  eels bigger than them if they go into the  deep part of the river or lake. Longfin eels have sharp  teeth but there teeth are way too small for it to be able to take on larger eel. Do you think longfin eels have any chance?

Today I did a paragraph on an eels appearance.
The easy part about writing the appearance paragraph was putting facts into sentences.
The hard part was finding high level words.

Persuasive writing

                          Half of term 1 I have been learning how to write a persuasive writing.
It was awesome learning how to write a different piece of writing I really enjoyed writing about the topic that was set up for  us. The hard part was finding higher level words to use instead of trash words.



Bedmas

Today I learnt how to work out Bedmas problems with my buddy Xavier. The easy thing was going in the order of operation left to right. The hard part was figuring out the answer to most problems. Apart from that it was fun and interesting to learn.

Last week I made a book review on a novel that I had been reading the name of that novel was Mr Nobody's eyes. That novel has lot's of extraordinary words and amazing journeys through it as well. I have been learning to read longer texts over a period of time. I enjoyed reading this novel.

Co-Operate with Matua Bodene

Today I learnt a game with matua Bodene about how to co-operate and communicate.
My favourite part of our time with matua was when we got into evenly spread teams and played 2 fun communication games. My second favourite part was when we played one of the games with the team members. The game we had played was a really awesome game because we had to communicate and use a bunch of strategies as we played. The  aim of the game was getting each team member from one side of the court to a nearby line without out touching the ground. We used little disc to get us over the line. The hard part of the game was getting all team members over  the line without touching the ground because we didn’t think to much of a plan to get us to the finish line. I know now to think about a plan instead of going for it.

RUAPEKAPEKA

Just yesterday my class  room 3 had a class trip to Ruapekapeka pa. I learnt so many new things about Ruapekapeka things I didn't even know about. I learnt that Ruapekapeka was the last wars in the north islands. I learnt that the wars started at Russell and ended up in Ruapekapeka. Hone heke Pokai was chief at the age of 36. Yesterday was really amazing getting to know more and more facts about Ruapekapeka thanks to my uncle Albert.

3R's Poster


This week I’ve been working on my 3R’s poster.

The hard part was finding pictures online. The easy part of this poster was making it good so that it can catch my reader’s eyes. I smashed it and learnt more things about this 3R’s poster. I can improve on this by following the advice of my poster.
